Social security: Italy under infringement procedure

On 25 July, the European Commission referred Italy to the Court of Justice of the European Union with an infringement procedure (INFR(2022)4113) for failure to respect workers’ rights regarding family benefits granted to them. According to the Commission, the requirements of residence in Italy for at least two years and the presence of children in Italy to access social family allowance are discriminatory and violate EU law on social security coordination and the free movement of workers.
