On May 7, 2024, a decree from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation updated and expanded the list of safe countries of origin for applicants for international protection. The concrete consequences of this definition are: the prioritization of the examination of the application and the possibility that the application may be declared manifestly unfounded if the applicant does not invoke “serious reasons.” The six countries added to the list are Bangladesh, Cameroon, Colombia, Egypt, Peru, and Sri Lanka. Inclusion in the list does not affect applications for international protection submitted before the adoption of the decree.
